Management accounts and KPI reporting
We explain why you’re profitable on paper but short on cash. Every month or quarter, we show you your income, costs, real profit and cash position, with the key performance indicators (KPIs) explained in plain English.
What’s included
Profit and loss
Income and costs for the period, compared with your budget and the same period last year.
Real profit
Your true profit after overheads, including income you’re owed and bills you haven’t paid yet, which the bank balance doesn’t show.
Profit vs cash, explained
We explain why you can have profit on paper but no money in the bank. You see what’s in the bank, what customers owe you and what you owe suppliers side by side, and exactly where the cash has gone.
KPIs that fit your business
We agree a few KPIs with you, such as gross margin, debtor days or overheads as a share of sales.
Tax building up
An estimate of the tax you are building up, so the bill never comes as a surprise.

Frequently asked questions
How are management accounts different from annual accounts?
Annual accounts are a legal requirement and look back over a full year. Management accounts are for you: they come monthly or quarterly, show what is happening now and help you make decisions.
Why do I have profit on paper but no money in the bank?
Profit and cash are measured differently. Your accounts count a sale when you invoice, even if the customer hasn’t paid yet. Cash also goes on things that don’t reduce profit, such as loan repayments, new equipment, stock, money you take out of the business and VAT you’re holding for HMRC. Your management accounts show exactly where the difference is, so you can chase late payers, plan big purchases and set money aside for tax before it becomes a problem.
How often should I get them?
Monthly suits most businesses that are growing or have tight margins. Quarterly works well for steadier businesses. We will recommend what fits.
Do my books need to be up to date?
Yes, the reports are only as good as the records behind them. If keeping on top of bookkeeping is a struggle, we can do it for you.
Which software do you work with?
We work with the main cloud accounting packages. Tell us what you use and we will fit around it.
